First, insert boot CD/DVD such as a Mac OS X install CD/DVD or similar disk such as TechTool Pro that has a boot volume built-in.
Next, restart your Mac and once you hear the boot sound, hold the C key down while booting and let the computer start until you see the rotating symbol. Once this happens you can let go of the C key and the computer will continue to boot off the CD/DVD.
