The way to do a disk repair on a Mac is to boot your Mac with either:
• an external Hard Drive with an OSX Installation or
• the original DVD/CD that came with your Mac
Either way, to do this you would have to change your boot drive to the either selected drive and once the boot drive has booted, then you would have to select Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utilitiy (if you are booting from an external Hard Drive). If you are booting with a bootable DVD/CD, then simply go through the install until a drop down menu appears on the top of your screen and select Tools -> Disk Utility and you can then go ahead and repair your main hard drive on your Mac.
In addition, there other tools that are available to perform more extensive diagnostic testing on your Mac Drive as well as your computer hardware. One piece of software that is highly recommended for this is Disk Warrior.
